Art Exhibit October 2008

YOUTH AND ADULTS USE ART TO VOICE THEIR EXPERIENCES AND SPEAK OUT FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY

Art exhibit by Miami’s adult consumers of mental health services and Haitian youth prove that “Art Works” in Substance Abuse Prevention and Mental Health Recovery.

~In celebration of “Red Ribbon Week” and “World Mental Health Day” in October, the Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) and The Miami Coalition for a Safe and Drug-Free Community (TMC) will unveil a series of acrylic paintings created by Haitian youth and Paper Maché Art by adult consumers with mental illness in Miami-Dade County. The Gallery Opening will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Rohde Building, located at 401 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33128. In addition, an Artist Forum, where the artists will voice their insight and discuss the meanings behind their art, will be held on Tuesday, October 21 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 p.m. at the same location.

The paintings and Paper Maché art will be on display FREE of charge throughout the month of October.
